A. The essence of the Ten Commandments is to love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our strength, and with all our mind; and to love everyone else as we love ourselves.
Why do we join our voices and sing together?
We see throughout Scripture that we are commanded to worship God and specifically to worship God by singing. There are 400 verses in the Bible that reference singing, nearly 50 of those are direct commands. Psalm 96 opens with these words: “Oh, sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth.” See also (Eph 5:19, Col 3:16).
Why we sing together in church is because God says so in His Word. This is certainly enough reason and there are many others—but I’ll only mention one.
Singing helps us remember. Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs help us to remember who God is, what He has said, and what He has done. As we sing of the glories of our God it sets our affections on Him who is all satisfying. Truly He has done so much for us in Christ—let’s join our voices together and sing.
